The Basic Introduction Course (BIC) is a comprehensive orientation course covering a variety of Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary topics. The course is developed and supported by the University Programs Branch, but is available for use in whole or in part for all Auxiliarists, and draws extensively from resources and information already available from the USCG and USCG Auxiliary.
BIC seeks not only to convey knowledge of facts and procedures, but also to share core values -- an awareness of the culture of service and leadership that surrounds the Coast Guard.
When taught on a campus to college students just joining the Auxiliary, it is recommended that the class convene at least one day per week over an entire semester; when taught outside of the college environment, it is recommended that the class be intensely focused over several days.
Below please find the ten core lessons, as well as the course pack (note taking guides) and the student workbook. Topics may be covered in an order suitable to class needs, but it is recommended that Administration and Paperwork be taught first, and that Coast Guard Core Values be taught second.
Coast Guard Indoctrination Course (online)BIC students are encouraged to complete the brief online "Coast Guard Indoctrination Course" as a basic skills supplement to BIC. The online course is geared to active duty personnel, but provides useful information, and may be taken at the student's own pace. First-time students will have to complete the new account form in order to access the site. |
